Our Story

KFire was founded by two friends who could not have come from more different backgrounds. Eddie was the executive sous chef of Truffleberry Market in Chicago while Ben was working as a financial analyst at an investment fund in New York City. Eddie had an idea for a Korean restaurant but needed the right partner with business experience. Ben had the experience but was in search of a great idea. As fate would have it, the two met and became fast friends which ultimately led to KFire’s inception. KFire Korean BBQ opened its doors for business in July 2020 in Logan Square, Chicago. Their second location is expected to open in mid-2023 in Old Town.

About Eddie

At an early age, Eddie developed a passion for food by spending time in the kitchen with his grandmother whom he credits for teaching him how to cook. First by learning to follow his grandmother’s recipes to eventually exploring and experimenting with recipes of his own, Eddie began to forge his own style of cooking which he ultimately honed and refined through the Le Cordon Bleu culinary school and his time as a professional chef in a variety of fine dining kitchens including Nomi Kitchen and Charlie Trotters.  In 2009 Eddie founded Ch’ava Café which in 2013 was featured as one of Chicago’s top 10 coffee shops by refinery29.com.  From 2015 Eddie served as the executive sous chef of the Truffleberry Market designing menus for a variety of high end catered events. Eddie’s philosophy on his cooking centers on creating bright flavors that balance the richness and savory qualities of his ingredients.

About Ben

Ben credits his father for his entrepreneurial side.  As a young child, Ben watched his father own and operate a corner deli business that sold cheesesteaks in Philadelphia, PA.  His curiosity into the world of commerce led him to pursue a degree in economics at The University of Chicago.  After graduating, Ben moved to New York City to work in finance first at Citigroup in their investment banking division and then onto Joho Capital where he served as a research analyst for the firm’s investment team. After 16 years in the only industry he’d ever known, Ben took the leap inspired by his father’s footsteps and moved to Chicago in search of the next big idea.
